Civinity Engineering install engineering systems in the Olympic swimming pools of Lithuania

After Rūta Meilutyte won the Olympic gold in London in 2012, it was realised that there was no pool in Lithuania that would meet the needs of the Olympic athletes. It took a decade for politicians’ promises to become reality. Two Olympic swimming pools of 50 metred are currently being completed in Lithuania – Lazdynai Swimmin Pool in Vilnius and the Water Sports Centre near Žalgiris Arena in Kaunas, on the island of Nemunas.

Civinity Engineering has been entrusted with the installation of advanced engineering systems in both Olympic Swimming Pools and is also in charge of the installation of the swimming pool at the Physical Training and Sports Centre in Molėtai, which complies with requirements of the International Water Sports Federation (FINA).

Cutting edge technology

Civinity Engineering installs heating, ventilation, cooling, plumbing, wastewater and fire systems in swimming pools, which are subject to particularly high requirements, especially in Olympic Swimming Pools. According to Titas Kecorius, CEO of Civinity Engineering, the installed pools will be the most advanced not only in Lithuania, but also in the Baltic States.

“All pools under construction are equipped with special pool ventilation chambers, which are highly resistant to aggressive environments and can precisely control and maintain the required humidity and temperature. The installation of air ducts was also focused on finding modern and high-quality solutions, therefore, textile ducts were used over two pools, and the Olympic Swimming Pool of Lazdynai was the first to be fitted with polyurethane ducts, which do not accumulate dirt. Some of the ducts are 4–5 metres wide. Moisture and aggressive chlorine-resistant materials are used in all pools,” says T. Kecorius.

Depth-adjustable pool in Vilnius

50-metre and 25-metre swimming pools provided in Lazdynai Swimming Pool will be among the most modern swimming pools in the Baltic States. The eight-lane swimming pool of 50 metres will be used for swimming and of 25 metres also for jumping into the water. The depth-adjustable pool will welcome everyone who wish to train at the Centre – water enthusiasts, athletes, children, parents with small children, and people with disabilities.

Special technology with 15 ventilation systems in Kaunas swimming pool

Žalgiris Arena Swimming Pool features a ten-lane, 50-metre swimming pool and a smaller pool overlooking the Nemunas. Around 95 % of the work has already been completed in the facility, which is now nearing completion. All heating, ventilation and purification systems are located underground in the basement of 8,000 m². Water will be heated to the right temperature by special technology, while as many as 15 ventilation systems will remove humidity and ensure the right indoor air conditions.

The swimming pool at Molėtai Centre for Physical Training and Sports will have a 4-lane, 25 m long swimming pool, which will also be adapted for children and people with disabilities.
